The team crossed the Atlantic to introduce themselves to their newfound American fanbase. Why Wrexham is so Popular These Days?

The Wrexham's USA tour attendance surpassed 110,000 people. The friendlies in the U.S. included opponents like Chelsea, Manchester United XI, LA Galaxy II, and Philadelphia Union II. But why has the Welsh club gained so much popularity in our country? Founded in 1864, Wrexham AFC is one of the oldest football teams in existence in the world. After a long period of poor sports performance and financial difficulties, theAmerican actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mc Elhenney bought Wrexham AFC in 2020. The Hollywood actors’ takeover received unanimous approval from supporters and meant a turning point in the club’s history. Only two years after the acquisition and after fifteen years, the club was crowned champion of the fifth tier and promoted to the fourth tier of the English National League. The compelling story of the Welsh team and Hollywood has been documented in the TV series Welcome to Wrexham, the critically acclaimed show that chronicles the purchase of Wrexham AFC by Reynolds and Mc Elhenne. The second season has just been released, after a very popular and successful 2022/2023 season.
